Walter George Williams, 82 of Newport, VA departed this life at his home on June 4, 2022.  Born in Giles County, Virginia on May 13, 1940, he was a son of the late Burtle Songer and Mary Agnes Williams Songer.

Walter worked in transportation services at Virginia Tech to assist with his family.  Walter loved his family, riding through the mountains, and cutting wood.

In addition to his parents, Walter is preceded in death by a son, Dewayne Williams; daughter, Sandra Lynn Williams; sisters, Thelma Louise Songer Dowdy, and Barbara McGuire; and brothers, Bob Songer, and Edward Songer "Beck".

Left to cherish his memory to their hearts are his wife, Mary Ann Williams. Walter's has a son, "Benny" Williams (Delores) of Newport, their son, George Benton Williams II;  their daughter, Sandra Arrington (Henry), and their children, Elijah Arrington, Kalynn Neice, and William Neice  Walter's son Curtis Leon Williams (Corinna) of Pembroke, with them are their daughter, Ecorinna Williams; their daughter, Kimberly Donathan (Dale), and great-granddaughter, Chloe; a son, Curtis Williams II (Cassie), and their children, Landon Williams, Chandler Williams, Skyler Williams, David Roseberry, Jase Roseberry, and Alison Roseberry. Walter also leaves a daughter, Dianne Griggs (Billy) of Eggleston; and their children, Daniel Williams (Roxie) and his children, Alex Williams, Gabe Williams, and Abby Williams; BJ Williams (Teresa) and their children Chase Robertson (Michelle) and their daughter, Quinn, Chance Robertson, Emily Williams and Wade Williams; and another son JD. Williams (Tiffany), and their children, Eli Williams, Brady Williams, Riley Dillon, Addison Williams, Ivy Williams, and Willa Mae Williams.  He also leaves a fourth child, Darlene Collins (David Robertson) of Pearisburg, and their son, John Christopher Collins (Aloria) along with their children, Stella Collins, Scott Collins, Easton Collins, and Amelia Collins.  In addition to this heritage he leaves his brother, Steve Songer (Eloise) of Newport; and sisters, Kathy Gail Carter (Jerry) of Blacksburg, and Betty Mae Breeding (Dale) of Craig County.

There will be a funeral service conducted on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 1:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Services will conclude at Birchlawn Burial Park with Military Honors.
