Obituary

William Robert "Bill" Bonds, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, in Peterstown, WV, at the age of 82. Born on July 31, 1943, in Giles County, Virginia, Bill's life was a testament to the values of faith, family, and hard work. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and heartfelt memories.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Betty Wickline Bonds, his loving children, Sodonia Bonds Marshall (Thomas), William Casey Bonds (Merinda), and Crystal Bonds French (Jamie), along with his step-children, Rhonda Wills Pennington (Mike), and Barry Wills (Becky). He was a proud grandfather to Shanna Rakes Willard (Chris), Jessi Bonds Elliott (Devin), Brenden Bonds, Chase Bonds, Dakota Weston Bonds (Madison), Robert Woodrow Bonds, Brett McDaniel, Jennifer Galford (Shane), Tracy Mitchem (Justin), and great-grandfather to Beau Randall Holdren, Lane Jeffrey Willard, Gracely Dawn Elliott, Josie Elaine Elliott, Blakely Bonds, Waylon Bonds, Aubrey Galford, Hallie Galford, Parker Mitchem, and Reed Mitchem. He was preceded in death by his parents, William T Bonds and Senah Parcell; son, Robert Jeffrey Bonds, and brothers Phillip and Lloyd Parcell. Bill is also survived by his brothers Jerry Wayne Parcell, Don Parcell, Eric Parcell, and his cherished sisters and brothers-in-law, Ronnie and Carol Stable, and Sammy and Diana Wickline.

Known for his gentle spirit and kindness, Bill's career spanned many years at the tannery before dedicating his service to the Virginia Department of Transportation in their Pearisburg office until his retirement. He was a steadfast member of the Family of Faith at Bethel Chapel, where he found great joy in his baptism and in listening to Pastors Eddie Kendall and Charlie Price minister. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he would often remind his loved ones that "God is the most important thing," a principle he lived by every day.

Bill grew up on Wolf Creek, where his family treasured the stories, he shared of his childhood adventures with his siblings. Those stories, filled with humor and wisdom, will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of hearing them. He was a man who showed his love for his family through actions, whether it was taking his children and grandchildren hunting and fishing, exploring new places on family trips hunting and fishing which hold sweet and special memories in the hearts of those he loved, or expressing his love through his cooking.

As a man of faith, it is fitting to remember Bill with the words of scripture that he held dear, "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23). His life was a reflection of this verse, as he served his family, his community, and his God with unwavering dedication and grace. We bid farewell to a man whose faith-filled and kind-hearted nature touched the lives of many.

Bill Bonds was a gentle soul who walked through life with a quiet strength and a steadfast belief in the goodness of the Lord.
