Obituary

William Coburn Lucas, 85, of Pembroke died Saturday evening, October 30, 2004 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Pembroke on August 16, 1919 he was a son of the late William Cephas and Birdie Mae Collins Lucas. He was a graduate of Pembroke High School class of 1939 and had been employeed at National Gypsum Goldbond Plant, self-employeed as a plumber and at Kendall Funeral Home. He had been a fireman at Pembroke, a member of Pembroke Oddfellows Lodge and was a charter member of Calvary Christian Church and was honored as Elder Emeritus. He was preceded in death by two sisters Claudine Albert and Evelyn Rumburg.



He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lorene Reese Lucas; two daughters and son-in-law Joyce DiRico of Pembroke and Judy and Albert Gillispie of Pembroke; four grandchildren Tony DiRico and Teri of Grayson, GA, Sally DiRico of Christiansburg, Chris DiRico of Pembroke, Milicent "Millie" Stevers and Audie of Pembroke; five great-grandchildren Tyler DiRico, Caleb DiRico, Justin DiRico, Keela Dooley, Lucas Stevers; two sisters Mary McCoy of McCoy and Emma L. Williams of Pearisburg and a special neice Barbara Jane Tawney.



Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with the Rev. Bobby Sutphin and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
