William David Robbins

William David Robbins, 65 of Pearisburg, Virginia departed this life February 16, 2026 in the care of Carilion Giles Community Hospital. Born in Giles County on June 8, 1960 he was a son of the late Maynard Robbins Sr. and Naomi Kathleen Farley Robbins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Joyce White.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Gwen Robbins; daughter, Sara Trent (Dustin); step-sons, Steven Vest (Ashley), and Alex Vest (Amanda); his 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; brothers, Jimmy Robbins (Angie), and Maynard Robbins (Katherine); father and mother-in-law, Jay and Garnet Adkins; sister-in-law, Lynn Davis (Steven); and brother-in-law, Jeff Adkins; the mother of his daughter, Lisa Robbins; and many more family members and friends.

David as he was known to his friends or Papaw as he was known to his grandchildren was a wonderful man that would do whatever he could to help anyone. His heart and compassion for serving others had no boundaries or limitations. He would selflessly give even if it meant he would go without. He was truly a great man with a gentle soul.

David loved going to Mount Airy or as he called it Mayberry with his wife. After all, Andy Griffith was just one of his favorite shows. When he would finally sit down after working all day and then coming home to “piddle”, you could always find him watching one of his favorite old shows, no matter how many times he had seen it in the past.

David loved his daughter Sara more than she could ever imagine, she was his Babygirl until his last breath. He was so proud of all her achievements from graduations to motherhood. David became the father of two stepsons Steven and Alex when they needed one the most. He was never a stepfather but a father that they could count on.

David was the safe place his wife Gwen needed when God put them together. Together they lived a full life. A life so full of love that most people didn’t understand it. They remained close to David’s first wife, Lisa, even having her at their wedding. David and Gwen embraced not only each other but every aspect of the others’ lives. Their love and marriage were a true example to others of what it means to come together as not a blended family but a whole family. Their love, their hearts, and their lives were guided by the word of God. They attended Pearisburg Church of God until they both faced health issues that made it difficult to attend in person. Their faith did not waive due to their physical absence on Sunday mornings; their faith remained strong and grew even more as they overcame hardships. David knew God and that knowing and loving of the Lord is what helped him get through some of his toughest days. David loved his wife Gwen with everything he had. He made sure she had what she needed and that she was well taken care of. He would fuss when she insisted on carrying groceries into the house instead of letting him grab them. He even did grocery shopping for her until his health wouldn’t allow it anymore. David’s love for Gwen was almost cinematic, something you only see in a movie. Gwen took great care of David throughout their entire relationship and even as he took his last breath, she was by his side.

David was blessed with many grandchildren. He showed up for them even when he was at his sickest. They knew that Papaw would be there. David would joke about not having enough laps to hold all the grandchildren he was blessed with. He leaves behind 14 grandchildren that he loved unconditionally: Morgan, Allyson, Addyson, Jacob, Caden, Bentley, Braden, Raelynn, Harper, Maci, Charlotte, Noah, Evie & Oliver. David had just found out that he was going to be a Great Papaw to his first great grandchild due this year. Once the disbelief that one of his “babies” was old enough to have a baby settled he was over the moon at the idea of being a Great Papaw. David touched the lives of so many people that even he didn’t realize just how many people knew they could count on him. His absence will be felt for years to come but knowing that he is no longer in pain but instead he is sitting with God, his parents and sister will bring some comfort to everyone that misses him here on earth.
